FIELD EXPERIENCE

  • Conducted soil, rock and water sampling throughout Gallinas Watershed (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005).

  • Conducted soil sampling and terrain analysis throughout Viveash Fire burn, Santa Fe National Forest (2002, 2003).

  • Planned and implemented six field seasons of detailed mapping and geological sampling of southeastern Alaska coastline via outboard-equipped inflatable boat (1992, 1994, 1998 through 2001).

  • Participated in helicopter-assisted field mapping in British Columbia, Canada (four weeks; 1995).

  • Prepared and analyzed plutonic rock samples for major element concentrations by DCP-AES (direct current plasma atomic emissions spectrometry).
  • Utilized petrographic, cathode luminescence and reflected light microscopes for thin section analysis.
  • Prepared powders and analyzed samples using x-ray diffractometer.

University of Pennsylvania
  • Separated apatite and zircon grains using heavy liquid and magnetic separation techniques.
  • Analyzed mineral mounts for fission-track age information and length distributions.

Virginia Polytechnic Institution and State University
  • Prepared and analyzed plutonic rock samples for whole rock Rb-Sr isotopic data using multicollector VG-Sector 54 mass spectrometer.
  • Analyzed mineral compositions using electron microprobe.
  • Examined rock textures and mineral compositions via the scanning electron microscope.
