PCs on Campus are protected from Virus outbreaks by Network Associates software - McAfee ViruScan. This software is installed on all office computers and set to update automatically. In order to protect the campus from infections generated by home computers, students and employees are allowed to install the same software on their personal PCs. Come by CNS to pick up your copy.

The NMHU CNSgroup now has upgraded the e-mail system.

We have now moved to Exchange 2000. One the new features are in the e-mail web interface. For more information go to FAQ on Outlook Web Access.

The NMHU CNSgroup now has a "work-order by email" system.

This is now the preferred method to submit work-orders.

To make a work-order, email to "cnshelp@nmhu.edu" (not in the global list).

Subject line "new helpdesk".
In the body of the message, describe the problem. Details (such as, PC name), are helpful.
Be sure to include your phone number.

We are using McAfee's VirusScan with e-policy Orchestrator agent (the agent does the automatic updating for the user) and McAfee's GroupShield on both the main University's e-mail servers. So, how well is the virus, click here for what viruses were detected and here for the type of viruses.

New "Viruses"
There is one major virus hit the campus, the newest is:

W32/Bagle.b@MM

This is a mass-mailing worm with the following characteristics:
  • contains its own SMTP engine to construct outgoing messages
  • harvests email addresses from the victim machine the From: address of messages is spoofed
  • the From: address of messages is spoofed
